Joash became King at seven years old, and did what was right in God’s eyes. Joash spent the first 6+ years of his life, hidden in the Temple, probably with the Priest Jehoiada as his Father figure. We need other people to stay focused on God! God even created us to need other people! Joash begins building God’s Temple, repairing it, working on it because his heart wanted to follow God. Joash’s heart is fickle. Not long after he loses Godly influences, he abandons the temple of the Lord. God continued to send prophets to the people; God gave opportunities for Joash to be affected by Godly influences. Joash’s heart, at first, wanted to rebuild the Temple, but his heart changed so much that he ends up ordering God’s prophet to be stoned to death. Our hearts are deceptive … WE NEED EACH OTHER to stay focused on God! We have a need for a continual seeking after God, it’s not a moment – it’s a movement towards him day after day. And as we ask him to, God creates a pure heart inside of us. He makes our spirit steadfast.
