Your friends should be as honest and loyal with you as a bathroom scale. If not, then you’ll want to see what the Bible has to say about friends.
Do you ever wonder if the friends you have are the right friends for you? How do you know who is the right friend? It all depends on what you are running towards. If you are running towards Jesus, then you want to surround yourself with friends that are doing the same and can help you on the path to Him.
Just because you and someone else have something in common, does not necessarily mean that they are a good friend for you. If you have a tendency towards alcoholism, then it’s not wise to be friends with those with the same propensity. It’s important to remember that the friends you collect become your life’s architect. If you want to grow and learn more about God and Jesus, then you need to select friends that can help you with that.
Choose your friends carefully. Ask yourself the following questions about your current friends to see if they fit the kind of friends you truly need. 1) Are my friends running towards Jesus? 2) Are my friends loyal in both good times and bad? 3) Will they lead me astray? 4) Can my friends control their anger? 5) Are my friends honest with me even when it isn’t easy to be? 6) Can they deal with gossip effectively? 7) Do they have appropriate boundries?
Choosing friends isn’t easy, but if you keep in mind what you are running towards, Jesus, then you’ll be better prepared to choose the right friends for you.
